Belchior - selftitled

After the demo "I Despise Jesus Christ" in 2007 now comes the full length album from this one man band thats located in the United States, i had not heard that 2-tracked debut demo but luckily for me its included at the end of this release.

So whats in store here? As you can judge (at least i did) by the cover its a pretty heavy atmospheric album but it is also pretty unique sounding in the sense that the songs avoid the traditional verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus (nothing wrong with cut & paste compositions of course though) and goes for reasonable long compositions that evolve in their own fashion and pace, all very blackish doomish vibe that takes your thoughts to some...well just look at the cover. Dark emanations  is surrounding the chapel walls!

Besides from the regular instruments quite some keyboards/organs is used to good effect and the vocals structure is floating more or less over/under the actual music. Production is nice and solid...maybe could have integrated the vocals a bit but that is a minor nitpick.

...And speaking of the vocals they are pretty special... a bit like what you can find in the more mental drawer in DSBM shelf, sure some maniac witch screaming like Burzum can be traced but also disturbing howls like Silencer... quite obnoxious hehe.
Have a tendency to hit that aggro nerve.

So folk if you like to take a dive into a satanic asylum ritual with some great soundtrack like grand pieces please then go and dive here.

Diabolus Amator - The Dawn of a New Flame

Here we have the first (as far as i know) solo project from Abyss called Diabolus Amator he has earlier been active in bands like Torment & Neldöreth, i can easily see the charm of ruling oneself  but with power comes responsibility...or so "they" say. (fuck that i say!)

Either way Abyss here have constructed his first part in his visionized hell castle, the attitude is clearly primitive but self convinced which is a plus, he also goes for the impulsive more rather then polished music with all the pros and cons that comes with it like some sloppy drumming and guitars is evident but also not shunned...that impulsive abyss fire can lead to great things in the future and by natural experience (to play all instruments one self, i cant even dress my self properly so... ;) ) tightness follows... i mean anyone can polish ones music to technical perfection but one cant polish up impulsive fire.

Apart from that i hear inspirations from the Finnish giants like Satanic Warmaster and the alike which will always get my blood pumping, from mid-tempo to a little faster the songs stomp forward with a Luciferian agenda with both some nice (limited though) melodic parts like in track 3 & 9 (best songs if you ask me) and also some Skin/punk humping in the backseat for some good effect. Overall a nice drive through the whole album.

Production is clean but not polished which suits the music, the harsh vocals is the rawest in the mix.

The interlude & outro is the darkest bits on this album which indicates that there is some extra intriguing bits luring inside of the artists inner chambers, i hope he let them intercept more with the actual songs in the future. Could turn out really great!
All in all a interesting entity this Diabolus Amator and is worth "opening the Eye" for. hehe

Try it out in the name of Satan!

1.     Kill Them
2.     Black Sun
3.     Into the Fires
4.     In Death Only Solitude (interlude)
5.     Opening the Eye
6.     Into the Depths of Shadows
7.     A Cold and Unending Hatred
8.     Unbroken Will of Lucifer
9.     The Dawn of a New Flame

Vapnvm - Closure

Here we have the first release from this new Swedish beast!

Without even getting time to blink they kick in the door with the first blasting track!
Their overall sound here is sure based in fearsome and pummeling black metal but they have
crammed in a lot more like many grand and epic layers and compositions, both somewhat raw vocals and clean ones are used to great effect and that can be said to the actual instruments as well.

There could be argued that some parts sound a bit towards the knightly heavy metal genre but i dont ever feel they step over the line of discomfort but rather infuses a potent & mighty atmosphere that for me is empowering! And besides from aural connections the compositions through out is engaging and of high caliber.
The production is just as the rest and works as a ground foundation that solidifies both the clean stuff as well as the harsh, nothing to complain about. Sounds just great and hard!
Music that fits for an all out attack i say!

They say that their influences is emptiness and misanthropy though...that may be so but then their take on these subjects is more confrontal & ass whipping rather then introverted & tear wiping.

These three songs is a strong debut (the members is no newcomers to this stuff) and i can easily see them grow fast and firm if they keep up with this quality that is both accessible and deep.
